About me

Through Time and the Darkroom: The Return to Analog Truth

Photography, for me, is the visualization of emotions—a trace of the unheard, a tangible proof of transience.

My journey through the world of light has lasted since 1979.

My name is Tibor Arva, and my story is a passage through the entire history of the modern medium. I began with analog photography in 1979, mastering the craft of film and the darkroom. In the early 2000s, I embraced digital technology, which I still actively use today in commercial work.

However, a few years ago, I felt a strong calling back to the roots. I realized that, in an artistic sense, I am most captivated by the honesty, authenticity, and originality of analog photography. The analog process is slow, deliberate, and demands complete dedication—a commitment that remains imprinted on every print.

Why Gelatin Silver Print?

Every print you see in my collection—whether they are macro forms, meditative landscapes, or abstract gears—is captured on film and individually handcrafted onto paper using the Gelatin Silver Print technique.

Authenticity: The manual work performed in the darkroom guarantees a unique tonal depth, the richness of black tones, and permanence that digital reproductions cannot achieve.

Uniqueness: I do not sell files; I sell physical objects. The manual control inherent in the darkroom process ensures that no two copies are identical, even within the limited editions.

What are you buying?

By purchasing my works, you receive a part of my nearly fifty-year experience, authentic emotion, and supreme craftsmanship. You receive an organic, unique print – a piece of time, shaped by light and silver. Each piece is marked, signed, and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity (COA).

Thank you for supporting the return to authentic, analog art.

My works are an invitation to slow down. I want the viewer to experience the beauty that stems from minimalism, contrast, and texture. Through limited editions, I offer not just art, but a unique artifact with a soul – a testament that in a fast-paced world, there is still a place for deep, handmade truth.
