Dark Tulips (Melancholy of Silk) — unique gelatin silver print 1/1

The unique gelatin silver print Dark Tulips departs from its serial sister (Tulips — Sculpture of Light) and enters the domain of singular artistic expression. Through deliberate longer exposure in the darkroom, a significantly darker, more velvety tone has been achieved. This is a unique edition 1/1 — the only copy in the world.

About the photograph

The longer exposure technique gives the image depth, weight and a sense of subtle melancholy. The buds, though elegant, appear enigmatic, almost like figures from a dream, wrapped in darkness and mystery. The emotion here is rich, quiet and powerful.

The title Melancholy of Silk suggests that particular weight that something beautiful but sad carries — a tenderness that aligns deeply with the dark palette. This unique gelatin silver print transmits that feeling directly to the viewer’s wall.

Why 1/1?

Because of the manual process, specific exposure time and toning, this print is the only copy that exists in this form. It is marked in the margin as 1/1, guaranteeing its absolute uniqueness. Artworks marked 1/1 gain the most value over time — because they cannot be reproduced.

The analog process

Shot on classic black-and-white film, with focus on shadow transitions. Controlled studio lighting is only the beginning — the final, dark, rich tone was achieved exclusively through mastery in the darkroom, through precise control of exposure time under the enlarger.

The classic gelatin silver (Silver Gelatin Print) process allows a depth of tone that no other medium can reach. This is an organic, tangible art object — not a digital reproduction but a physical impression of light on silver.

For collectors

Unique gelatin silver prints are the most precious part of any photographic collection. Unlike a limited edition, 1/1 status means there will never be another copy — not better, not worse, not different. There is only this one.

Shipping and framing

The print arrives carefully packaged, mounted with mat, ready for framing. The frame is not included. Acid-free framing with museum-quality UV-protective glass is recommended — a unique work deserves protection that will preserve it for generations.

A certificate of authenticity is provided with every print.

SILVER GELATIN PRINT

The photograph is handcrafted in a traditional darkroom, hand-exposed and developed on premium Ilford Multigrade Fiber-Based (FB) or RC paper. Using classic silver halide chemistry, this authentic analog process guarantees exquisite tonal gradations, deep archival blacks, and a museum-grade lifespan of over 100 years.

MUSEUM MATBOARD

Each artwork is hand-mounted in an acid-free museum matboard in an off-white shade. With a precise 45° bevel cut, the matboard isolates the photograph from the glass, creates a captivating gallery depth, and protects it for generations.

03 /

BACKING BOARD

The back of the artwork is secured with a rigid, pH-neutral barrier board. This backing prevents the cotton paper from rippling and warping over the years, ensuring the print remains perfectly flat within its frame.
