Certificate of Authenticity

Every gelatin silver print from this studio ships with a physical Certificate of Authenticity. It is not a formality — it is a record. A document that ties this specific object to this specific edition, made by hand, signed in ink.

What comes with your print

  • Gelatin silver print on archival darkroom paper — handmade in the darkroom
  • Archival passepartout (acid-free) — mounted and aligned by hand
  • Archival backboard — rigid, acid-free, ready for framing
  • Certificate of Authenticity — printed, signed, and numbered in ink
  • Hand signature on the front of the print (below the image)
  • Edition stamp and number on the reverse

What the certificate states

  • Title of the work
  • Year of the negative and year of printing
  • Paper type and process (e.g., fiber-base or resin-coated silver gelatin)
  • Print dimensions and passepartout dimensions
  • Edition number — for example, 01 / 10
  • Signature of the photographer

Limited editions — how they work

Each image is printed in an edition of ten. No more than ten prints of any single image will ever be made and offered for sale. When the edition is complete, the negative is retired from printing.

The number on your certificate — 01/10, 03/10, and so on — is the permanent record of which print you hold. Each number is unique within the edition.

Why it matters

A darkroom print without documentation is still a beautiful object. With documentation, it becomes a collectible — something that can be insured, exhibited, resold, and passed on. The certificate is the difference between owning a print and owning a work.
